The City Council has partnered with CUNY’s Institute for Software Design and Development and a network of New York City-based startups to create the Advanced Software Development Program. This program aims to help New Yorkers acquire the skills they need to compete for jobs in the local tech sector. The program, via online, classroom, and lab instruction, will train a select group of CUNY students in a year-long immersive program, which will culminate in a 12+ week placement at a local tech company. Moving forward, Tumblr’s CEO said that Tumblr will go ‘all in’ and expand on the East Coast, bringing in talent from all over the country to work in New York.

For now, I miss the grit and grime of New York. It is real and raw, and the commotion of the city is contagious. Startup life is characterized by constant motion and tenacious tinkering, not hikes on Mt. Tam and brunch in the Mission, and the pace of life and breadth of humanity in New York is invigorating. I like to tell people: New York is like coffee. You know it’s not good for you, and you don’t really like the taste, but you just can’t get enough. The rush, the jitters, they’re addicting, as are startups.
